In a galaxy torn apart by war
Mara Skiren is a scavenger, a black-market dealer. Blackmailed into helping Commander Kell Frayne infiltrate a treacherous corner of the galaxy, Mara learns that her biggest danger is from her sexy, by-the-book partner. She's a loner with more than a few battle scars on her heart, but something about Commander Frayne stirs up her long-buried need for an intimate connection.
An ace pilot for the elite Black Wraith Squadron, Kell's mission is to rescue a lost pilot and ship. Unable to deny his attraction to the beautiful, rebellious Mara, he decides bedding her would cool his ardor. But one taste is not nearly enough, and he finds himself sharing more of his real self with her than he has with anyone.
With deadly criminals on their heels and an increasingly dangerous assignment to complete, he's starting to wonder if they survived, could he let her go? And will Mara want to stay?

Collision Course eBook Zoe Archer
I discovered Zoe Archer last year when she did a book blog tour to promote her Blades of the Rose series (Warrior (Blades of the Rose).) I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Archer's writing style and her ability to tell an amazing story. I even sought out her back list and was highly entertained by Love in a Bottle. Even though COLLISION COURSE was in a totally different genre than what she's written in the past, I was sure she'd be able to pull it off. And she did.In a galaxy far, far away...okay, so that's not how the story goes, but it does have a STAR WAYS vibe to it--in a very good way. Black-market dealer Mara Skiren is strong-armed into "helping" the 8th Wing recover a top-secret spaceship and its missing pilot. Because she's a scavenger and outlaw, she knows the other lowlifes who seek to profit from pirating and stealing. Part of this "helping" comes with a partner, something that irks Mara more than being blackmailed by the "good guys"--even if this partner is ace pilot Commander Kell Frayne who is sexy as hell. Soon, Mara and Kell are navigating the outer reaches of space, the outlaw planet and market places, infiltrating a black market auction, and pulling off the rescue of the century.
What I loved:
1. Mara--she is strong, smart, and lives on the wild side. She hasn't had an easy life and doesn't expect anything to be handed to her.
2. Kell--who doesn't love a man in uniform? Especially if he knows when to take it off and mix with the locals? His life hasn't been easy either, but he fights for a better life for himself and those around him.
3. The action--Wow! There were a lot of cool action scenes that played out nicely. It was easy to visualize what was happening, and I found myself completely caught up in it.
4. The romance--the chemistry between Kell and Mara was very palatable. You can sense the sparks flying. You can feel the changes between them. The progression of their relationship felt very organic and real.
There were a few drawbacks to this story, but they were small and very few.
1. I had a little difficulty getting into this book at first because of all the instant lust flying around. I was afraid it was going to be lust, lust, lust. But it wasn't. They quickly moved from the "you're hot" stage to an actual working relationship. There was a lot of detailed sex, so beware if that's not your thing.
2. Obstacles--Mara and Kell's main obstacle was the whole "he's law and I'm outlaw." It didn't seem all that hard for them to overcome, especially since they successfully burned all of Mara's bridges with her scavenger life just to pull off the mission.
Even though this was a "Sci-Fi" story with lots of weird space and alien terms, I never felt lost as to what was going on or what was being referenced. I couldn't help but draw some STAR WARS parallels to this story, which I think is inevitable for any space story. Think of Mara as the Han Solo and Kell as the Princess Leia and the outlaw planet as Tatooine. Kell is a pilot of the 8th Wing squadron (think Rebel Alliance) and Mara has her own ship (think The Millennium Falcon,) which she uses to smuggle black market items around the galaxy trying to keep out of the grasps of PRAXIS (think the Empire.) Thinking of STAR WARS helped me with all the futuristic terms being used.
I really enjoyed this story and wanted to reread it as soon as I was done. I've seen that other reviewers had said this is a start to a new series, but I can't find anything on her website indicating she has anything more planned for these characters or world. I would love to see more of Mara and Kell and what other adventures they have.

Collision Course eBook Zoe Archer Reviews
I really liked this book. I have nothing bad to say about this book. For some reason it was just hard to pay attention to the story. Don't get me wrong it has action, adventure, drama, romance, etc. I just had to stop half way and go read something else then I came back and repeat. But anyway I would recommend this book.
I enjoyde the Plot. It was interesting and original, at least to me. My problem was 50% story and 50% sex. Sex is fine, but most Sci-Fi books I have read tone it down more. It is supposed to add to the story, not dominate it. Having never read a romance novel, I can't compare. Wish the story plot have been expanded more. Could have been rated higher.
Collision Course by Zoe Archer was an enjoyable, fast read with substantive world descriptions (Smoke Quadrant) and few typographic errors making this story very readable. A strong female lead character, and an immediate, sensual attractive between two kindred spirits. Look forward to reading next in series, Chain Reaction.
My ultimate favourite trope that reflected my fandom's OTP- a princess and a commander, kicked up a notch with street smarts, badass piloting and combat skills.
And what better way to re-read this book but with an Audible upgrade? After reading this book a couple of years ago, one of the first scifi romance books I've read and loved, Audible upgrade gave it a new life, adding dimension and depth to Mara and Kell.
Zoe Archer is officially one of my new favourite romance authors! I've read her Blades of the Rose Series and just finished her sci-fi romance Collision Course which follows Mara Skiren, Scavenger extraordinaire and Kell Frayne, 8th Wing Commander, as they battle the PRAXIS(Not unlike the Empire in Star Wars), smugglers, drone bots, plasma rays, Liden's Lash (a meteor belt that is on fire) and not to mention their feelings for each other. Which by the way are hot, hot, hot!
Mara is coerced into helping the 8th Wing and Kell is sent with her on a rescue mission deep into territory that only smugglers and scum traverse. Which is why Mara's help is so crucial being a scavenger herself. Right off the bat the two protagonists lusty feelings are apparent and the sensuality builds with each page, despite the fact that they are on opposite sides of the fence.
Good things about this book- Great characters, fantastic dialogue, very Star Wars feeling without going overboard and making me say, "Oh, that's just like Return of the Jedi", sex scenes were HOT but not overdone and the two characters didn't just jump into bed after meeting there was a lovely build up of tension and the ending was more than believable and, of course, as all romances go, very happy.
Minor improvements- I personally would have loved to see some more build up before the first chapter. Meaning I would have liked some more insight into Mara's past as when you learn about it there is a desire to know just how she survived her last fifteen years coming from the beginnings she did.(Can't say more without putting in a spoiler alert) With Kell, it's easier to see how he became the man he is from the story of his past, but with Mara I think I could have used more background in order to really believe her history, but really, that's only a minor complaint.
I very much enjoyed the book, it is the first Sci-fi romance and I was pleasantly surprised at the satisfaction the blend of the two genre's brought. Action, adventure, romance and moments of humour that made for a great read and one I would highly recommend.
